Something that has been on my mind a lot lately is the idea of being okay even when things around us may not seem okay. In other words, our core emotions don’t need to be affected by what is going on around us. In fact, the foundation of the Law of Attraction rests on this concept. Our success with manifesting what we want is dependent on our ability to not let what is happening in our physical reality negatively impact or influence our feelings.
Let’s talk about physical reality versus vibrational reality for a minute.
Your physical reality is what is happening around you right now. It’s everything from your body to your physical space, your to-do list, relationships, what’s happening in the world, your workplace, etc. You are constantly interacting with your physical reality.
Your vibrational reality is how you are feeling most of the time. It’s the thoughts you are having that translate into the emotions that you are feeling.
Most people are influenced by their physical reality to the exclusion of everything else. If something happens in their physical reality, they react to it. They have thoughts and judgments about what is happening and those thoughts and judgments translate into feelings about what is happening. We’ve all been there and done that. It's part of being human in this physical world.
Let’s take an example. Let’s say Jill gets a big bill in the mail that she wasn’t expecting. For her (and, let’s be honest, most of us – even LOA savvy peeps) the natural reaction is one of stress, indignation, maybe even panic. Thoughts about how she’s going to pay it may come up and a feeling of lack and scarcity ensues. Jill’s vibrational reality is now a match to her physical reality. This means that by the Law of Attraction, if she continues to feel this way, she will attract more lack and scarcity. Jill has let her physical reality impact her vibrational reality.
LOA savvy folks know that it’s the opposite, however. Your physical reality is a result of your vibrational reality. What you see and experience on a day to day basis is the manifestation of your leading thoughts and feelings (either past or present). Jill must have been feeling a lack of abundance over a period of time leading up to the big bill – that’s how it entered her physical reality to begin with. So, when Jill got that big bill in the mail, she would naturally have felt that her feelings of lack were validated. “See? This always happens to me! This is so unfair.” But as a deliberate creator, she would have immediately recognized the negative feelings and she would have reached for a better feeling thought.
Instead, she could have thought:
And even if she didn’t believe those thoughts in the moment, they are better thoughts than the helpless, panicked ones she was initially having. Better feeling thoughts lead to better feelings. And better feelings lead to a physical reality that matches those better feelings. It’s likely that if she is able to manage her vibration with respect to money over time, she will find that the bill is a mistake, the actual amount she owes is significantly smaller, or she will find the means to pay it without too much effort. On the other hand, maybe she has to do a bit of work to get that bill paid. As long as she does it with acceptance and an abundance mindset, she won’t get more unexpected bills in the future. But if she continues to look at it like a financial setback or another piece of evidence of her lack of ability to handle money, then it will be difficult to pay and she can expect more of the same in the future.
It’s really important to practice managing our vibrations every day. It’s also key to recognize when we let something in our physical reality that we don’t like influence our thoughts and emotions. Practice it now with things that don’t carry as much emotional weight, so that you have strong vibrational muscles for when something significant enters your physical reality.
Case in point, I’ve been spending a lot of time practicing lately since my mother started declining in health rapidly and it took a couple of months for the doctors to figure out and confirm what was causing it. I have found that daily meditation, daily setting of intentions, and closely observing my thoughts and feelings has helped me to maintain a sense of “okay-ness” and equilibrium.
I have so much more to say on this subject. In a future post, I’ll offer up another tool for making it easier to maintain your positive vibrational reality even when you perceive something negative in your physical reality.
And stay tuned for my 5 fave LOA books!
